Location: Blythe, CA
Client: Southern California Edison (SCE)
Delivery Method: Design-Build / CM-at-Risk (active)
Project Overview
Perera is wrapping up a solar-infrastructure upgrade at SCE’s Blythe Service Center—an operations hub in the Colorado Desert where summer temperatures routinely top 110 °F. The work adds ground-mount and carport PV arrays, modernizes the electrical backbone, and prepares the yard for future EV-fleet charging, all while keeping daily utility operations online.
Perera’s Scope
Work PackageKey ElementsPV Generation & Carports• New ground-mount rows and high-wind steel carports sized to offset daytime load Inverter & Switchgear Upgrades• State-of-the-art inverters, pad-mounted switchgear, step-up transformers, and 15 kV duct-banks SCADA & Monitoring• Real-time performance data integrated into SCE’s SCADA network, plus weather and thermal sensors EV-Ready Infrastructure• Conduit, pull-boxes, lighting, and ADA upgrades sized for future Level 2/Level 3 chargers
Sustainability Impact
Substantial onsite renewable capacity cuts peak grid demand.
Resilient micro-grid architecture keeps critical operations running during regional outages.
EV-ready design accelerates SCE’s fleet-electrification roadmap without future re-work.
Current Status
Structural steel and PV installation are complete, systems are in commissioning, and final completion is on track for January 2025, with performance data and photography to follow.
